Production management isn't heroics. It's catching the details before they get expensive.

Packaging is usually the cheapest line item on an apparel cost sheet. It's also the very first thing your customer touches.

On a $22 hoodie, the neck label, hangtag and polybag add up to roughly $0.80. That's under 4% of unit cost. Because it seems small, most brands sign it off and never look at it again.

How that $0.80 quietly eats your margin

Your boxes are too big. Freight carriers charge by volume, not just weight. Oversized cartons mean you're literally paying to ship empty air on every single order.

Your cartons waste pallet space. A few extra centimetres on a box doesn't sound like much โ€” until it means you can't fit that final layer on a pallet or in a container. You end up paying for space you aren't using.

Skipping the polybag. To save a few cents, brands skip the bag. Then garments rub together during transit and arrive scuffed. The factory inspection marked them "pass". The customer feels like they got a used item.

Bad barcode placement. If the barcode is hard to scan or placed incorrectly, the retailer rejects the shipment at the dock. Now you're paying a warehouse hourly rates to relabel thousands of units by hand.

The point

Production management isn't about saving the day when things go wrong. It's about catching the quiet, boring details before they get expensive.
