Experience is knowing which questions to ask

After years of working on products, we've learned something: experience isn't about knowing every answer. It's about knowing which questions to ask.

There are always questions

When you're developing a new product, the questions never stop.

  • What could go wrong?
  • What are we missing?
  • What happens if the supplier can't deliver?
  • What changes when we move from 1,000 units to 10,000?
  • Have we considered the backup option?
  • Who is responsible for checking this?

The obvious questions are easy. The more valuable ones are the questions that don't immediately come to mind.

Where experience helps

You start recognising patterns. You've seen a similar problem before. You've seen a supplier disappear. You've seen a good sample turn into inconsistent production. You've seen a small specification change create a much bigger problem later.

So you start asking about those things earlier. Not because you expect everything to go wrong — but because you've learned what is worth checking.

Good partners ask

Good partners don't just execute. They ask the questions that make better outcomes possible.

That's a big part of what we hope to bring to Bearsource.

We build the product. Sourcing, sampling, quality control and production management for founders, creators and ecommerce brands.
